Turn folders of photos into a WordPress gallery. Simplest Gallery discovers images inside your chosen uploads folder and turns each folder into a gallery section. Keep event albums, travel photos, portfolios and project progress organized in folders, then display them with one shortcode.
Your folders become your galleries
Choose a folder inside wp-content/uploads, add subfolders and place your images inside them. Nested folders are discovered automatically. Add [simplest_gallery] to a page or post to show your galleries, or use [simplest_gallery folder="Travel"] to display a specific folder and its subfolders.
Give every album context
Use Settings > Simplest Gallery to add folder and image descriptions, rename detected folders, or hide folders from gallery output while keeping the files. Renaming a folder changes its name on disk. Hidden folders are excluded from gallery output; hiding is not access control for the underlying image URLs.
Let visitors choose the view
Visitors can switch between list, thumbnail and card views. Organize a project into numbered folders such as part1 - Plans and part2 - Build to add progress and timeline views, with the stages presented in order.
See which galleries get opened
Optional view counts show aggregate folder totals below the gallery grid. See folder and image totals in settings, or place a total elsewhere with the included counter shortcode. You can turn counting off without losing saved totals. Counters store aggregate totals without IP addresses, visitor identifiers or tracking cookies.
Images link to their original files. A preview modal comes from your theme or another integration; it is not included in the plugin. A compatible theme can report preview opens and display individual photo totals inside its modal using the documented gallery event.
Works with local and offloaded photos
Display JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP and AVIF images. When Uploads to S3 is configured to remove local originals after offloading, Simplest Gallery can discover verified images in its configured S3 uploads location. Uploads to S3 is a separate optional plugin; local galleries do not require it.
